The second part in A Walking Contradiction's Demi Monde series. The creative imprint from Basel, mostly known for its releases by Varuna, hereby welcomes the next pair of friends to complete their two-part Half World project. Helsinki AWC affiliate Lemont explores dense and icy deepness with two slow-rolling ambient trips. Where Hidden Hawaii / Nullpunkt boss Felix K appears as FLXK1 to go wild with two mind whirling 140 bpm techno steppers.
A much needed repress of DJ ESP & Hoschi's The Mad Scientists EP on Minnesota imprint Communique has finally arrived. DJ ESP aka label chief Woody McBride, legend of the Midwest scene, takes over the first side with the droning and mental energy of '4 Days In The Laboratory' followed by one more cerebral cut in the form of 'New Body' which will have you trancing out under the strobe lights. Over on the flip, Hoschi's contribution is the high-octane peak time acid thriller that is the title track.
Within just one year, the Leipzig-based label Self Learning System has established itself as a serious and cheeky contender in the electro scene, and the third release aims to live up to this claim once again. DJ Unisex surprises with Chromatic Stimulations, as his four otherworldly tracks unfold a no-frills attitude on par with a trippy sound design between a revealing in and outro. This EP is not afraid to present raw and unsettling machine noises and rather revels in the bubble bath of reverberating and resonating synths from late night hardware sessions.
A classic science fiction sound track album - outstanding & masterfully executed by Convextion aka ERP/Gerard Hanson. Artwork by David A. Hardy. Including download via bandcamp.
Heavy!! Strut and Art Yard present the culmination of a 5-year project researching the archives of author, DJ and activist John Sinclair with the first ever retrospective of the influential Detroit Artists Workshop spanning 1965 to 1978. A revelation for any fan of jazz, featuring previously unreleased recordings by Byrd, Moore, English, Woodard, Bennie Maupin and Teddy Harris accompanied by extensive sleeve notes from John Sinclair, Robin Eichele and Herb Boyd. All tracks are remastered from the original tapes by Technology Works.“In the mid-‘60s, Detroit was nowhere,” explains Sinclair. “A decaying jazz scene, no community of poets, painters or writers so a group of young Detroit artists, most of us students at Wayne State University, got together in the late Summer of 1964.” Led by Sinclair and trumpeter Charles Moore, the Artists Workshop Society was formed as a co-operative community, drawing upon the resources of every participating individual in order to perpetuate itself. They began to provide spaces in Detroit for musicians to rehearse and to promote live concerts showcasing a range progressive jazz artists across the city. Between the mid-‘60s and the early ‘80s, Sinclair amassed a huge archive of recordings from the Workshop concerts featuring Detroit residents like Moore’s Contemporary 5, Ron English and Lyman Woodard alongside many other US jazz luminaries including Donald Byrd, Sun Ra Arkestra and Herbie Hancock. Dormant in the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Brooklyn for many years, Strut and Art Yard began their research into the archives in 2017.
Two tracks from the 1985 Discomagic album on 12"!Side A contains the rare original versions. On side B, two new and exclusive highlight remixes by Flemming Dalum and Van Edelsteyn
Almost 2 years after the success of the album The tony Allen Experiments and a few months after the release of the 7inch Amore, Nu Guinea return to the scene with a new LP published by their newborn label NG Records. After touring the world looking for sounds suitable for their vibrations, Nu Guinea decided to go back to square one, Napoli, where Massimo Di Lena and Lucio Aquilina were born and raised. They watched their city from a distance reconstructing its energy from their studio in Berlin, calibrating the synths on the meridian of Vesuvius, the volcano that has always protected and threatened Napoli.Nuova Napoli is the result of a long musical research that has become a historical investigation on the sound that shaped Napoli during the ‘70s and ‘80s, starting from the contamination of genres (disco, jazz-funk, African rhythms) which ended up in Nu Guinea’s DNA.In this album the synthesizers fill the spaces between the past and the future, tightening in a single body acoustic instruments, electronics and voices in Neapolitan dialect. It is the first time that the duo has worked with such a large group of musicians, some of whom are exponents of the contemporary Neapolitan scene.
Kalita presents the first ever official reissue of Sweet Clover's highly sought-after 1979 disco single "You're What I Need', backed by an unreleased extended mix and the equally impressive 'Sweet Talk', sourced from the original master tapes.Accompanied by a never-before-seen photo of the band and liner notes based on interviews with writer and producer Willie McClain, this is another no-brainer from the Kalita camp !

Triple album with 15 tracks of all exclusive unreleased material, including new work by Theo himself!Growing up in Chicago, later Detroit-based music producer, Theo Parrish is internationally well known for his own inimitable downtempo house music style. The approach Parrish took to compiling DJ-Kicks was very ambitious, inviting his Detroit peers to produce a collection of brand new material, and in turn creating the first ever all exclusive entry to the esteemed series."Detroit creates. But rarely imitates. Why? We hear and see many from other places do that with what we originate. No need to follow. Get it straight. In the Great Lakes there are always more under the surface than those that appear to penetrate the top layer of attention and recognition. What about them that defy tradition? Those that side step the inaccurate definitions often given from outside positions? This is that evidence. Enjoy."
Obia Records third instalment has arrived with “sonic movements EP”. This ritual is guided by Caribbean producer Trinidadian Deep who delves deep into the spirit of the cosmos with a highly percussive and spacious chords filled EP.The main track “sonic movements” quickly evolves from rhythm filled percussion to beautiful pads and infectious piano solos. Accompanied by exceptional synth work this track captures the listener attention from start to finish. On the B-side you will find “sounds and movement” a more stripped down four to the floor big room cut with a vocal shot on top that sends the dancer a float. Short melodic chords are the backbone of this production. Enhanced by a well-balanced percussion placement and synth layering “sounds and movement” taps into the sunset spirit.“Slow ya thing” as the names states turns the tempo down and makes this record a steady choice for the versatile DJ or music listener. The track drags through multiple emotions and feelings by means of great pads and laidback drums. Piano chords that open the soul remain throughout the entire track.Back to the A-side Wendel Sield provides a remix to the main cut of the EP. His “Obi rework” functions as a standalone track that minimalistically mimics sections of the main cut creating a deeper vibe. A dirty and playful synth line hypnotizes the listener towards the point of no return.

Then moves into A-2 “Get Up”, A hypnotic leftfield tune, inspired by the 80's machine disco with diffused vocoder voices. It concludes with B-1 “Let Us In”, a laid-back fusion of cosmic synth in an old-school rhythm section.Inspired by the authentic sounds from the ‘80s and ‘90s, Kuniyuki, Soichi Terada, and Sauce 81 bring you three future-oriented soulful improvisation jams to today!

There's a high-concept story attached to the TerraFirm label that is intriguingly well formed and thorough. It goes like this: "TerraFirm provides the desiccated, toxified, irradiated or otherwise uninhabitable planets of this sector with a suite of services to rectify any environmental challenge." Taking the reins for the seventh outing is Spandrel who serves up bendy, rubbery, body-popping house-cum-techno. 'Floaterz' is a deep cruiser, and so is 'Night Winds Eternal' but with trippy melodies. On the flipside, 'Ornithological Studies' gets more bristly in its cosmic excursions and last of all is the superbly hooky and loopy dub tech roller 'Colonizer Appreciation Day.'
Minimalistic yet organic house chillers by NYC producer.

Rod20 is a new project from ROD, the Rotterdam based artist mostly known for his well received contributions to Ben Klock's Klockworks label. During the rise of Covid19 ROD decided to ditch the computer and dust off his vintage hardware collection, challenging himself to create strictly (analogue) hardware jams using only 1 synthesizer + 1 drum machine per track, recorded in a single take. Rod20 (as in 2020 as well as ROD 2.0) kicked off in style with ROD2001 'In The Mix', a 13 track Mix CD (also pressed on 20 highly limited 3x LP copies) sold personally at the height of the pandemic, followed by 2 conceptual mini-albums 'The Hidden Notes Project (Part 1 & 2)' released on Jeff Mills' Axis Records. Now with most 2022 dance floors in full swing again, it's time to unleash the Rod20 project in full, starting with ROD2002 'SteraStudent EP', a personal tribute to 1 of of ROD's biggest inspirations and mentors in the world of techno; Sterac (aka Steve Rachmad). No computer. No edits. No nonsense. Just pure & raw stripped down (90's) basement techno cuts designed to make you sweat.
