VIL is the alias of Portuguese producer Nuno Costa, who has racked up some great releases on top labels like Klockworks, Be As One and Hardgroove in recent times. The influence of late '90s techno from the turn of the millennium is the focus on Above Below; from cyclical peak-time tools such as 'Rotari' (which receives an utterly hypnotic rework by Ednd later) or 'Blanco', while 'Ghet09' wears its Robert Hood influence firmly on its sleeve, and likewise the slamming heads-down groove of 'Anjos, The New Birmingham' does so too, with more of a nod to early Mark Broom or Ben Sims.
