Incredible collection of rare King Tubby VS. Scientist tracks. These were some of the last ‘classical’ dub works created before dancehall ultimately mutated into a technologically-driven sound that largely did away with organic instruments and although these works already point in that direction, they still sound entirely fresh today because of the superb musicianship of the Roots Radics and the guiding hand of Jah Thomas in the producer’s chair, as well as Scientist and his cohorts, working their dub magic at King Tubby’s studio. Extensive liner notes by David Katz.
The buttery sweet vocal harmonies of The Silvertones would melt even the stoniest hearts. Silver Bullets is their classic and standout album and is now reissued for the first time as part of an archival series focused on the most essential sounds of Trojan Records throughout the 60s and 70s. Delroy Denton first ford the group in 1964 with Keith Coley and Gilmore Grant. They went on to make music under various different names for Duke Reid's Treasure Isle and Coxsone Dodd's Studio One. This debut record from 1973 was recorded at the legendary Black Arc in one marathon all night session. The roots reggae sounds are free flowing and seductive and make a moment where both the past and the present of reggae collided.
