Released alongside a captivating narrative about the artist's journey into gear acquisition syndrome, SWLABR's "MCMXCI EP" brings a raw, experimental collection blending bleep techno and acid. Originally conceived in 1991, the EP surfaces in 2023, with each track seemingly created using a similar set of vintage gear, including a 4-track tape recorder, a Roland TR-707 drum machine, and a JX-8P synthesizer purchased on the cheap. The result feels like the product of an era, with the tape hiss and imperfections adding to the authenticity.
